The Orchid Pediatrics Story
Orchid. Pediatrics. Two words that don’t seem to go together. They came to me in 2020 during the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic while I worked in a corner of my bedroom and my two children screamed at each other. The nanny couldn’t manage both of them so I found an open emergency preschool for my youngest. And then another preschool and then another. My oldest thrived at home learning geography and mythology on top of the online schoolwork. As a parent, I was not thriving and realized the environment was everything for me and my kids. Hence, Orchid Pediatrics was born.
Orchid.
Orchid children need the right environment to thrive. They can not grow anywhere but when they find the right space, they flourish. They can even “out grow” their counterparts and show signs of increased resilience, lower rates of anxiety and depression. But, if they don’t find this environment, the opposite is true. I had seen this time and time again in my own children. Wrong environment, chaos. Right environment, pure joy.
Pediatrics.
I took the leap and opened my own pediatric practice to support children in their developmental and behavioral needs. It was scary, but I knew I needed to do it for my children and myself. I envisioned a place where parents would be partners and seen as the experts of their child. Support would be more than a prescription and a quick visit; we’d pull in innovative modalities and look at the genome and gut. Parental well-being would be valued.
Orchid Pediatrics.
I created the clinic I was looking for as a parent and dreamed about after many assessments and doctor visits with my own kids. Value the whole child. See the caregiver as an expert. Integrate the environment. The approach would be holistic with cutting edge modalities allowing for personalized care. The goal would be for children and adolescents with developmental and behavioral differences to thrive.
Since our start in 2022, we have grown into a well respected clinic that is neurodiverse affirming, gender-affirming and ability affirming. We continue to learn and grow and expand our reach through education on social media, our website blog and monthly newsletter. We also offer no cost online brain games to help all access measurements for brain health.
